There's a live action movie adaptation of Death Note ahead of us! Warner Bros intends indeed to bring the manga to the big screen. Director Shane Black (who helmed Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and wrote the script of Lethal Weapon 4) has been hired to direct this Death Note movie based on a script by Anthony Bagarozzi and Charles Mondry.
For those who don't know, Death Note is a popular manga series created by writer Tsugumi Ohba and manga artist Takeshi Obata. The main character is Light, a high school student who discovers a supernatural notebook, the "Death Note" which gives its user the power to kill anyone just by writing the person's name in the book. Light then uses the book to get rid of criminals. But the student-turned-vigilante finds himself pursued by a famous FBI criminal profiler known only by the alias L.
Death Note has a huge following in Japan and around the world. So they'd better do this adaptation right, otherwise names will get written.
